My Webspace:

1. Where do I find this 'webspace'?

Mac users: For Mac users a folder called "My_Web" will be created in the previously provisioned 2 gigabyte virtual user drive, and Mac users can connect to this drive by pulling down from the "Go" menu item in "Finder" and "Connect to Server" smb://fscj-uds/home/username. Enter your username and password when prompted.

PC users: For PC users a folder called "My_Web" will be created in the previously provisioned 2 gigabyte virtual drive space called "Home Directory" (h: drive).

To access this space within the college network, the user will either need to be physically connected to the college network, or connect by accessing the "STAFF-WIFI" wireless network.

To access this space outside the college network the user will need to upload their content using a SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) program. The address is web.fscj.edu then they enter their username and password.

2. How do I upload to my webspace?

The easiest way to upload to your webspace is to copy it to your "My_Web" directory within your "Home Directory" (h: drive) on the PC or your virtual drive space on the Mac. Users can also SFTP into their "My_Web" folder to up-load files as well.

3. What is the URL for my webspace?

After you have successfully created your friendly name the webspace creation process will start. Please allow up to 24 hours for the process to be completed. Once created the URL will be: http://web.fscj.edu/username.

4. How much stuff can I put in my webspace?

The "My_Web" folder is located within the "Home Directory" which has previously been provisioned for 2 gigabytes of storage.

5. What can I put in my webspace?

– The following file types are acceptable for upload: .htm, .html, .css, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .png, .pub, .epub, .txt, .dwg, .dwf, .java, .pps, .ppt, .pptx, .fprg, .sfc

The following MIME types are allowed: text/*, application/xml, application/msword, application/pdf, application/vnd.ms-excel, application/vnd.ms-powerpoint, application/x-msaccess, image/gif, image/jpeg, image/png, image/tiff, application/epub+zip, application/x-sfc-file, application/x-dwg-file, application/x-dwf-file, inode/x-empty

The following file types are acceptable index pages: index.html, index.htm, Profile.html

6. What can't I put in my webspace?

Applications, Executable Files, Hosting Videos. All multimedia files should be hosted in MediaSpace, our multimedia content repository. All employees have access to MediaSpace through the Artemis employee portal. For more information about MediaSpace, click here.

1. Why won't my PHP application run in my webspace?

For security reasons, only the following file types are approved for upload: .htm, .html, .css, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .png, .pub, .epub, .txt, .dwg, .dwf, .java, .pps, .ppt, .pptx, .fprg, .sfc

2. Where's the cgi-bin?

There is not a "cgi-bin" as this space is for static webpages only.

3. Why won't my .NET app work?

.NET and other server side applications are not supported in this space. If you have a request for use of this technology, please contact the Educational Technology Team at et@fscj.edu.

4. How do I connect FrontPage to my web site?

Your existing FrontPage site cannot be ported over and must be re-created through cutting and pasting between your existing site and your webpage creating application. iWeb works well for this and please be sure to contact your Campus Multimedia Specialist for assistance.
