Frequently Asked Questions

Friendly Name:

1. What does creating a friendly name do?

Setting a "Friendly Name" will give you a personalized email address as well as create a Faculty Webspace for you to use. Your old email address userid@fscj.edu will still receive e-mail as normal but any email you send will now be from your personalized email address. (i.e. Jane.Doe@fscj.edu) It is important to note that you will still access college systems by using your current username.

2. What if I need to change my Friendly Name?

If your name changes because of events like marriage or legal name change, you'll first contact Human Resource, who will initiate the name change process. After confirmed and Human Resources has made the name change, users will need to log into Artemis and click on Change Public Profile link to re-set their friendly name.

My Webspace:

1. Where do I find this 'webspace'?

Mac users: For Mac users a folder called "My_Web" will be created in the previously provisioned 2 gigabyte virtual user drive, and Mac users can connect to this drive by pulling down from the "Go" menu item in "Finder" and "Connect to Server" smb://fccj-uds/home/username. Enter your username and password when prompted.

PC users: For PC users a folder called "My_Web" will be created in the previously provisioned 2 gigabyte virtual drive space called "Home Directory" (h: drive).

To access this space within the college network, the user will either need to be physically connected to the college network, or connect by accessing the "STAFF-WIFI" wireless network.

To access this space outside the college network the user will need to upload their content using a SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) program. The address is web.fscj.edu then they enter their username and password.

2. How do I upload to my webspace?

The easiest way to upload to your webspace is to copy it to your "My_Web" directory within your "Home Directory" (h: drive) on the PC or your virtual drive space on the Mac. Users can also SFTP into their "My_Web" folder to up-load files as well.

3. What is the URL for my webspace?

After you have successfully created your friendly name the webspace creation process will start. Please allow up to 24 hours for the process to be completed. Once created the URL will be: http://web.fscj.edu/username.

4. How much stuff can I put in my webspace?
