is the study of matter. It is
described by some a “the central science” because it overlaps with
physics, biology and geology.- There
are 5 main areas of chemistry
- Physical
chemistry: The study of
the internal structure of matter and energy.
- Analytical
chemistry: Answers the
questions “What is it” and “How much
is in there?”
Organic
Chemistry: the study of
carbon based compounds. These
compounds typically contain mostly carbon and hydrogen with some
nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur.- Inorganic
chemistry: The study of
compounds based on the other 112 elements.
- Biochemistry:
The study of chemistry of living systems.
